Christian Help Center of Person County

From the Directors Desk:

“Comfort each other and edify one another.” I Thessalonians 5:11

What a blessing to see how the people of this great county reach out to comfort those who are hurting among us! We have just come through a very difficult year and we thank God for the generosity of those who made it possible for us to reach out and help our brothers and sisters in need.

During the holiday season, we provided a total of 220 special food bags containing turkey or ham and all the trimmings for delicious Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. It is only due to the many donations of items needed, that we were able to make many families happy. God bless each of you for your gifts of love. Our schools, churches, and businesses did an outstanding job with food drives. The food pantry never looked so good!

The Christian Help Center’s winter fund raiser, A Miracle in Giving, sponsored by The Courier Times and NuWay Cleaners, is about to end. We are elated with the results thus far. The goal of  $25,000 has not been met, but we are close. Just know that we are so grateful to everyone who has given to this fund raiser. If your name has not appeared in the Courier Times, please call and let me know. Also, if you need a receipt, stop by the office or call and we will send your receipt by mail. A special “thank you” goes to Brinn Clayton and Bayard Crumpton for all you do for this ministry.

Coats are available for those in need, thanks to the many individuals and groups that donated coats. We are especially grateful to Clayton Homes, United Way, and NuWay Cleaners for your part in providing warm coats. There were many others, too many to name, and we thank you all.

Along with a coat, one needs a hat and scarf at times to face the cold weather. The Needle Workers provided many beautiful, warm hats and scarves. Thank you ladies! You have been a blessing to many.

The wood shed now has wood, thanks to Concord United Methodist Church, Gateway Baptist Church and The Church of Latter Day Saints. If you would like to be a part of the wood ministry, please contact the CHC office and let us know when you would like to make a donation. The number is (336) 599-6070. Call between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

On January 20th, the first bags will go the schools for the Backpack Pals program. In order for this new ministry to be successful, we need the help of the community. On January 14th, an in-house look at the food and bags will be held at the Beulah Baptist Association Building at 230 S. Morgan Street.  Please come by and bring items of food or money. The committee members will be on hand to answer questions and show you what we are doing. With your help, we know that we will be able to provide weekend nourishment for many students.

Thank you for everything that was done for the Christian Help Center in 2011. Always remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:40 . . .” Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these, My brethren, you did it to Me.”

God's Blessing,
Mary Stanfield, Director
